Tech for Good

Masaya1

Our friend and adventurer Sam Cossman put an expedition together with GE to make the worlds first connected volcano. A team of volcanologists, filmmakers, drone operators and other experts spent several weeks this summer connecting IoT sensors to the Masaya Volcano in Nicaragua. The Masaya Volcano is an active volcano with a boiling lava lake threatening the nearby town of Masaya. The goal with mounting IoT-sensors and monitoring the volcano in real time is to predict eruptions as well as to spread information and experiences of a live volcano. At Spotscale we were happy to help out with 3D reconstruction of the volcano from the safety of our office in Linköping, quite excited when we got footage like this sent to us:-) The 3D-model will be part of interactive experiences of the volcano. Stay tuned!

Mipim

Last week we spent three days in south of France getting to know the European real estate market and spreading the word about high resolution, digital, 3D models using reality capture and drones. As if meeting with hundreds of real estate developers, architects and city planners wasn’t enough the place was full of city models and miniature buildings. Can’t get much better 🙂

Up and down the Valley

After three days of Expo in Vegas we moved on to San Francisco to meet with some great people in AR/VR, gaming, user friendly drone data management and also got a sneak peak at the de Young museums new app that really take advantage of 3D and indoor navigation in a beautiful way!

You might think getting a laptop for traveling would be a good idea, but we like to travel with Maggie – the computer 🙂

UAV Expo in Vegas

Last week we spent three days exhibiting at the UAV Expo in Las Vegas. It was great to take part of the up and coming drone business in the US. In Sweden we’ve been able to fly for years, even in urban areas and there seem to be great opportunities in the States as well now, as pilots can get their certifications and fly commercially.

The use of drones for agriculture, stock piles and landscape is up and running and we hope we raised some interest in the use for architecture, real estate and city planning purposes as well.

Our Oculus demo, where you could move around a building in a city square and look around the surroundings, was popular among the visitors.
